Top ten things for Microsoft to do with excess money that are better than spending it on the corporate art collection: 1. Give their contract workers a bonus. Helping deserving employees with families to feed is more important than wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) on a growing collection of intrinsically worthless inanimate objects. It will also minimize the opportunity for certain populist politicians down the road to make allegations of insensitivity. 2. Settle the class action by their contract workers. It would end a big headache and get Judges Pregerson and Reinhardt off their backs. 3. Set up a scholarship fund for the talented offspring of microsoft employees or, better yet, talented yougsters from the ghetto 4. Give the money back to shareholders through increased share buybacks (I'm assuming the money won't be enough to make much of a difference, but, hey, it's better than wasting it) 5. If they must spend it on art, then establish or contribute to a local art museum. I'm sure Seattle has any umber of promissing candidates. and, if not, there's always the Getty in L.A., who I'm sure would take their money under the right conditions. 6. Set up a foundation to hand out awards to starving artists, or scientists or software engineers or performers in any profession or vocation. Again, at least here they are helping people instead of just spending money on inanimate objects. 7. Give the money to charity: the Red Cross or United Way. 8. Invest the money in a promising start up, or put it in the bank and just let it earn interest, or buy gold and stick it in a vault for the day the dollar crashes. 9. Give Reardon and Carlos a raise. 10. Send the money to me. With that kind of money, I could quit my day-job and spend all day posting BS to this thread! ;)
