Well, we are still in the dark ages about how the mind really works, or even what reality is. But I can also see cultural evolution. The big truth, IMO, is that we live in an illusion to begin with.

I have been watching a new program called True Detective. The dialogue in that HBO? series is as smart as anything I have ever read in my life by anyone. And this is just a run of the mill TV program, but whoever wrote it is on the intellectual leading edge, IMO.

On smoking pot. The mind changes over time as one gets use to it. I can read my writing the next day and see how it looks. It usually looks fine to me?

Alcohol just makes one stupid. Pot does something else.

With re to the monk, I can believe that as scientists are learning about how to reach the unconscious mind and even what it is. Monks know tons of secrets about the mind we have no idea about.

But I think most people live in a total fantasy land and it puzzles me that so many have a hard time breaking free of dogmatic indoctrination they get when young e.g. religion.

Eric Fromm once said: "the most neurotic person is he who adjusts successfully to a neurotic system e.g. Nazism or religion, IMO.
