If someone does not outperform S&P, then why would they pick stocks instead of investing in index fund? Yes, the index is crappy, but that only makes underperformance to it worse. Cause the comeone could compare against a better index ( any of valueweightedindex.com ) the underperformance would be even worse.

I know that you (and others) don't like to hear this. Obviously, this does not apply to you or to Grommit anyway. But for most people comparison is valid and important: if they cannot outperform even a crappy index, they should not waste their money and time. :)

(Luckily, I am still ahead in historical returns, so I don't need to eat my words and convert to RSP or such :))
