Carter picked Volcker in July 1979 and one month later he started TIGHTENING the money supply.

So much for your, "he didn't do it while Carter was in office".

Carter didn't HAVE to appoint Volcker. He did it because he thought the country NEEDED it.

Carter could have gone with an easy money guy. Reagan got NO blame for squeezing the economy to death, he just blamed it ALL on Carter.

BTW...I like your comments about how China is now facing competition in the CHEAP manufacturing battle.
Every growing economy goes through that stage. I remember how the "made in Japan" thing was so prevalent in my youth and now the "made in China" thing has become the new mantra.

I guess it will be the "made in Indonesia" thing next.
