My concern involves Lucent's recent acquisitions. I have to become more "learned" about Gigabit ethernet vs ATM. Are these technology's competitors or are they complementary? Don't have a technical grasp on this factor. LLucent just announced it's acquisition of Prominet for $200 million. Prominet is one of a bevy of startups that have stormed into data networking with layer 3 switches or routing switches-that can transfer millions of packets per second. Most of these devices employ Gigabit Ethernet a networking technology that promises a tenfold increase over Fast Erthernet.

This technology could be a competitor to ATM in campus systems.

On the otherhand, you know about the Lucent/Yurie marketing agreement.I have some work to do in this area.

The current plunge in Yurie is probably a combination of technology concers as well as the overall market. Good Buying opportunity?????
