I am Joe Sixpack.

I am a recent grad who until now didn't care about the market at all as I didn't have any money to put in anyway. I picked up 100 shares of Altera after talking to a friend who works there (a few weeks ago at 43-7/8 up a k, down 2k). It seems to me that the market has been driven more by hype (ie iomega)than fundamentals and more recently by hype about the fundamentals (earnings estimates). This leads me to my question: what is a good free source of earnings estimates and information on the brokers/organizations that make them?

Free is important as I am only investing a couple of k and so overhead must be avoided at all costs.

I'm planning on staying in for the next couple of months to a year to see what happens. My understanding is that this company has expanding sales in an expanding market and won't be mortally wounded unless a new technology replaces them or capacity drives the price of chips to unprofitable levels.

Thanks for listening. I'll return to my Pabst Blue Ribbon now.
