A tiny bit of pos news. The bellwether long bond had jumped 1 1/8 points in the session. That sharp gain has succeeded in driving the yield on the long bond below the 6% level. The bond's yield has slipped to 5.98%. That should be good news for stock market investors. Lower interest rates can function as an offset to the debilitated global economy, analysts said. But the improving character in the bond market is going to provide just wan relief to investors focused on the global economic crisis and the apparent skid in fourth-quarter profits.
