You sure are unread but that would be par for the course, the concept/ idea of Ahimsa for instance, or non violence to all living things, is mentioned in the Vedas that go far back. There was contemporary to Buddha, part of a Hindu sect that stressed this idea to an ultimate extent called Jains, their philosophy is well known but too demanding for most people. Since most all of these ideas are born from men in rigorous contemplative mode, usually peaceful resolutions are found regarding the human condition.

The modern day Ghandi would be the perfect example of this.
