Senate Debates Lifting Oil Export Ban for First Time in Decades It's a debate we need to have as the impetus for the oil export ban (the mid-east oil embargo in 1973-74 and our increasing domestic production) (along with possibly significant increased imports from Canada) have changed the circumstances that initially led to the ban. It will be a balancing test as to what is the best way to go. Their are competing interests on both sides of the question (consumers and domestic manufactures who want lower energy costs vs/ refiners and exporters who want the revenue derived from exports).
