OT: AT&T plan for Kurt's mom

Kurt, I think you might have signed your mom up for AT&T Next. Assuming you were at an AT&T corporate store, your options should have been:

1) Buy the 5S outright for $650 + $62 tax, then sign up for a off-contract 300MB plan for $45/mo
2) Pay 2 year contract price of $199 + $62 tax for the phone, then sign up for an on-contract 300Mb plan for $60/mo
3) Sign up for NEXT, pay only tax for the phone ($62), then pay $45/ mo for the 300MB plan + $35/mo for NEXT.

Option 1 costs $1792 over 2 years.
Option 2 costs $1701 over 2 years.
Option 3 costs $1982 over 2 years, the primary benefit being that you can switch phones after a year at no additional cost.

If your mom is like mine, she should not be paying the NEXT premium just so she can switch to the latest and greatest handset every year. The subsidized contract option is the best value. I'm sure they will let you switch to different terms if you ask.
