"So do you support the death penalty for heinous crimes
when there is no doubt in the matter?"

I have been trying to imagine
a case where killing a killer would serve a useful purpose. The problem is that
the punishment is willy nilly. People should know what is a crime and how
crimes are addressed. The way it is now, some people (very guilty) get away
scott free while others (perhaps framed but without any financial or social
power) get convicted. So long as our society is wishy washy and irrational, it
is probably best that we leave ultimate and irreversible damage off the table.
Because...on whose hearsay will you or I accept the conclusion of
"no
doubt"??
I think if it was your own child or spouse you would probably
distrust all testimony accept your own two eyes..
A simple NO would have sufficed. So if Clifford Olsen or Robert Picton had killed your daughter you would vote to send him on what amounts to a taxpayer funded vacation for 20 years?

At 90yrs, Doctor Catherine Hamlin, an Australian Gynecologist Is Still Calling in Ethiopia
nytimes.com
(mentioned this Oregon journalist Nicholas Kristof before, following him on FB, seems a good guy)

In much of the world, the most dangerous thing a woman can do is become pregnant, and 800 die daily in childbirth. Many more suffer injuries. Liberals and conservatives joust over abortion policies, but the basic task of making childbirth safer never gets adequate attention or resources. Bravo to Representative Rosa DeLauro, a Democrat from Connecticut, for preparing legislation that would support global efforts to prevent and repair fistulas.
