No one is ignoring individual rights.

The individual is dependent upon society. Without a healthy society the individual will perish. It was our society and government that protected you from the king of England, Hitler and many others who would make you a slave or kill you.

In tribal days banishment from the tribe meant almost certain death.

So it is in your best interest to protect your society and keep it healthy. Sometimes tis requires giving up certain rights. In a democracy the individual gets to make the decision which rights.
