ORCL slashing down its company parties? Sheesh. That's a strategy only Al Dunlap could love.

Let the employees have their party. They earned it. AMAT, certainly combating mkt problems of its own, just had some big company bashes for its 30th anniversary last month -- Bob Dylan played an exclusive AMAT concert in San Jose, while Stevie Wonder did the same in Austin.

I can't fathom ORCL's decision -- this type action deflates morale at a time when they can't afford it. To quote DJ, regarding the AMAT concerts:

"The gigs were not just for fun. Headhunters credited Applied with cleverly highlighting its generosity to employees in a cutthroat job market with neighbors Cisco Systems Inc., Netscape Communications Corp. and Oracle Corp."
