India is far ahead in embracing green energy than the US is for several reasons. The sun and wind is everywhere even in the remotest of villages where there is no electricity. And in places where there is electricity, they conserve by shutting off electric lights, TV's, electric appliances when they leave a room etc. etc. and thereby save money which most people do not have much of. Engineers there are experimenting with running their BART like local transportation system in a hybrid fashion with solar and electric power like the PRIUS etc.
