If I can focus on biotech stocks, because that's what I know best, I try to do my buying on days when the whole market is weak, and my selling on days when it is strong. The fact is that whether Apple had good earnings or not, or whether the latest jobs numbers were weaker or stronger than expected has virtually nothing to do with the fundamentals of my biotech investments. Yet these stocks trade up and down with the market just the same.

It is admittedly psychologically very hard to be buying when the market is in meltdown mode - the temptation is just to bury one's head in the sand. (Note how many fewer posts there are on stock-related boards here when the market is weak).
