Mark: There were several good articles about S. Korea the last several days that highlighted a number of their problems. After reading several different articles, I reached a conclusion that a substantial number of the companies, divisions, or parts of the Chaebols are redundant and not capable of making money. A significant number of these Chaebols are seeking legal protection from their debts. The debt to equity ratio in these things is hard to comprehend. In the end, a substantial amount of these parts must be eliminated or merged into others. And this is only part of the problem.
