Stooge Andrea Mitchell: Hillary Friend Blair's Memoirs 'Taken Out of Context'

....................................................................................................................

NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

It remains to be seen what damage the papers of Hillary's close friend Diane Blair will do to Clinton's presumed presidential candidacy. But Andrea Mitchell made one thing clear this morning: if there is anything there [or anywhere else for that matter] that is potentially harmful to Hillary, Mitchell and her MSM cohorts are ready to ride to Clinton's defense.

On today's Morning Joe, Mitchell trotted out the hoary "taken out of context" chestnut in response to revelations in the Blair papers, such as that Bill Clinton's campaign advisors viewed Hillary as "ruthless."

Mitchell also promoted Hillary's excuse that the Lewinsky affair was due to the "stress" that Bill was under. Right.

Consider what a difference it can make in a presidential election to have an MSM ready to jump on any Republican foibles while defending any Dem debacles.

ANDREA MITCHELL: They [Hillary and Blair] were the two women professors, the only women on campus in professor roles. And so, this was a bond. This is a girlfriend bond and these are the kind of conversations--and Hillary by the way knew that these were going to be made public because she spoke, she did a video when they were donated to the library.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Are you saying they are fair game, Andrea?

MITCHELL: No, I'm not. What I'm saying is that what we've seen so far were taken out of context and we have now read through more of it and there's a lot more about the stress that her husband was going through for which she blames herself. There's a lot more about the Lewinsky stuff than what we've read.

Hollywood star Shirley Temple dies

A look back at the life of Shirley Temple

Former Hollywood child star Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85.

With her adorable charm and blonde curls, she was one of the most popular stars of the 1930s, in hit movies like Bright Eyes and Stand Up and Cheer.

After retiring from films in 1950 at the age of 21, Temple returned to the spotlight as a politician and diplomat.

She died on Monday at home in Woodside, California, from natural causes. "She was surrounded by her family and caregivers," a statement said.

Born in 1928, Temple soon became a major star after getting her first film role at the age of three.

She accepted the Screen Actors Guild Awards life achievement award in 2006
Her singing, dancing and acting won over fans worldwide. She was given a special juvenile Oscar in 1935, when she was just six years old. To this day, she is still the youngest person to receive an Academy Award.

With the nickname "America's little darling", she was ranked as Hollywood's biggest draw for four years running from 1935 to '38 in an annual poll of US cinema owners.

Her rendition of the song On the Good Ship Lollipop in the film Bright Eyes was among her most famous performances.

  • Temple started dancing at Mrs Meglin's Dance Studio in Los Angeles aged three.
  • It was here, in 1931, that she was signed up a series of shorts that parodied famous films with all-child casts. She was paid $10 a day.
  • Stand Up and Cheer was her first feature film in 1934.
  • A year later, aged six, she was the first recipient of a special juvenile Oscar. She holds the record as the youngest ever Oscar winner.
  • Her mother Gertrude did her hair for each movie. Every hairstyle had exactly 56 curls.
  • Temple made 14 short films and 43 features during her acting career.

Her other films included Curly Top, The Littlest Rebel, Baby Take a Bow and Little Miss Marker.

She was such a hit that US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt dubbed her "Little Miss Miracle" for raising morale during the Great Depression and she was credited with helping save 20th Century Fox from bankruptcy.

Temple starred in a total of 43 feature films - but found it difficult to sustain her career in adulthood and left acting behind in 1950.

She continued to appear on television, but that work dried up and she eventually stepped away from the spotlight.

When she came back into the public eye, it was in a new guise. Under her married name Shirley Temple Black, she ran as a Republican candidate for Congress in 1967 but lost.

Richard Nixon later appointed her as a member of the US delegation to the United Nations General Assembly before President Ford named her the US ambassador to Ghana in 1974.

In 1989, she was made the US ambassador to Czechoslovakia shortly before the fall of the country's Communist regime.

She considered her background in entertainment an asset to her political career. "Politicians are actors too, don't you think?" she once said.

In a statement announcing her death, her family said: "We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife for 55 years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black."

Court Orders Utility To Address Wind Turbine Noise Problems

Residents near Consumers Energy wind farm complain of health issues

By Jack Spencer | Feb. 7, 2014
michigancapitolconfidential.com

The Lake Winds Energy Plant surrounds homes in Mason County.

A judge has ordered Consumers Energy to come up with a plan to rid its Lake Winds Energy Plant of excessive noise levels.

Last month, Consumers Energy asked the 51st Circuit Court to overrule Mason County's finding that the Lake Winds industrial plant is not in compliance with the county's noise ordinance. As part of that legal action the utility also wanted the court to issue a stay that would block efforts by Mason County to enforce the county's interpretation of the ordinance until after the case had been argued in court.

On Monday, 51st Circuit Court Judge Richard Cooper denied the CMS request for a stay and ordered the utility to submit a plan to the county by today to mitigate the noise problem. In response, CMS officials said they would comply and a mitigation plan would be submitted.

"We were asked to submit a mitigation plan by Feb. 7 and we will do so," CMS spokesman Dennis Marvin said. "It will be up to the county to make a determination on our plan. At the present time, we do not know how that process will work."

Marvin said the judge's decision not to grant the CMS request for a stay will not prevent the utility's case from moving forward.

"We believe the arguments we've outlined are well founded," Marvin said. "We look forward to the court’s review."

However, there isn't any wiggle room for mitigating the noise issue, said Kevon Martis, director of the Interstate Informed Citizens Coalition ( IICC), a non-profit organization that is concerned about the construction of wind turbines in the region.

"There are only two ways to reduce the noise level," Martis said. "One would be to increase the distance between the turbines and the homes, and it is too late for that. The other is to reduce the decibel level, which would significantly increase the operating costs of the plant."

Lake Winds is a 56-turbine facility located south of Ludington in Mason County. It was the utility company's first wind plant project in Michigan.

Residents who live near the $250 million plant began complaining of health problems shortly after the turbines began operating. They filed a lawsuit on April 1 arguing that noise, vibrations and flickering lights emanating from the wind plant were adversely affecting their health. Among the symptoms noted in the lawsuit were dizziness, sleeplessness and headaches.

Less than six months later, in September, the Mason County Planning Commission determined that the wind plant is not in compliance with safety guidelines. CMS appealed that decision to the Mason County Zoning Board of Appeals. In December 2013, the County Zoning Board of Appeals upheld the planning commission's decision. In response, CMS took the county to court. If the 51st Circuit Court ultimately upholds the Mason County finding, CMS would be expected to take the issue to the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Lake Winds is part of the utility's effort to meet Michigan's renewable energy mandate,
which requires that 10 percent of the state's energy be produced by in-state renewable sources by 2015. Though the mandate was ostensibly aimed at reducing carbon emissions, the 2008 law did not require that emissions be monitored to measure the mandate's actual impact.

Medical Center won't let patients watch Fox News
.............................................................................................
By Todd Starnes February 13, 2014

Oct.2, 2013: A man looks over the Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare) signup page on the HealthCare.gov website in New York in this photo illustration. (Reuters)

I imagine the only thing worse than being forced to watch CNN inside an airport terminal is being forced to watch it in a doctor’s office.

So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered a Michigan health care facility, funded by federal tax dollars, blocked Fox News Channel from its waiting room television sets.

The president of Family Health Care directed staff to block Fox News after a board member complained about our network’s coverage of the Affordable Care Act, an employee told me.

“The board member complained that patients were turning the channel to Fox News,” said the employee who asked not to be identified for reasons related to the unemployment line. “They are pro-ObamaCare and they felt (Fox’s) stance did not mesh with our stance.”

Family Health Care is a private, non-profit business that operates community health centers in five Michigan towns. According to the employee, the health centers have ObamaCare facilitators on site to help people apply for the program.

The employee provided me a copy of an internal office memorandum that confirms the home of “Fair & Balanced” news is blocked.

“A while ago Kathy Sather had asked all sites not to air the Fox News channel on the public waiting room TV’s,” wrote a network manager in an email to staff members on Feb. 4. “Today I blocked the channel on both the medical and dental waiting rooms.”

Sather is president of Family Health Care.

“I did check with staff and they mentioned often the visitors are changing channels on the TV’s,” the network manager wrote. “I now have both TV’s blocking that channel, so the public won’t be able to change the station. If anyone asks for the TV to be put on that channel please let them know we cannot air that channel.”

That edict didn’t set well with the employee who contacted me.

“I feel like we are being manipulated,” the employee said. “Who are they to say you can’t watch something? If the patient wants to put on Fox they should be able to put on Fox.”

It’s almost impossible to believe, right? Surely, there must have been some sort of misunderstanding. What could possibly be so offensive about Fox News? I mean sure, Bob Beckel is known to use a few “colorful metaphors,” but he’s just a lovable curmudgeon. And who doesn’t love the Factor Word of the Day? We are a pithier nation because of the No Spin Zone.

So I reached out to Sather who promptly confirmed that Steve and Elizabeth and Brian were no longer welcome in the waiting rooms.

She said the health center had a responsibility to do everything humanly possible to “ensure a positive patient experience in the waiting room.”

“Simply put, several complaints have been brought to my attention asking that we not air the Fox News channel in our televised waiting areas,” Sather wrote. “I responded by addressing the issue promptly asking that the channel be blocked in response to those complaints.”

I can’t imagine a patient finding a more positive experience than watching Fox News Channel.

A few years ago my mother was hospitalized. Because of her medical condition she was unable to talk. One day I received a telephone call from my mother’s nurse. She told me that mom was thrashing about and throwing things at the television set. She couldn’t figure out why she was so rattled.

We went through a list of possibilities, until I suggested it might have something to do with the television show she was watching.

“Well,” the nurse replied, “When I walked in she was watching Fox & Friends, but after she fell asleep I changed the channel.”

Which channel, I asked?

“CNN,” she said.

“Sweet mercy,” I hollered into the phone. “Change it back to Fox News! And hurry – before she breaks the television set.”

My mother was not a big fan of CNN. She said that was one of the reasons she hated to fly. But she sure loved Fox News – especially when Shep would tell her what the game day temperature was in Oxford.

Back in Michigan, the employee told me Sather’s explanation is a bunch of “baloney.”

The employee said that there were no complaints from patients – only a board member of the organization.

“It’s all very politically correct,” the employee said. “This complaint thing is baloney. They don’t want anyone to get the idea that affordable care is not good.”

Surely there must be some way to reach a compromise. Maybe they could blur the Fox News logo. Or perhaps they could bleep out all the conservative words?

My suggestions fell on deaf ears.

“We are a health care provider, not a news analyst,” Sather wrote to me.”We are in no position to comment on the quality of news programming. We simply responded to a patient request.”

As it now stands, patients at federally-funded Family Health Care will not be allowed to watch Fox News Channel in their waiting rooms.

And you won’t believe what the health center is forcing patients to watch.

“CNN,” the employee told me. “Ugh.”

Most troubling of all is the HHS Mandate that forces corporations, non-profits, and citizens to violate their consciences by subsidizing drugs that can kill unborn children. This HHS Mandate represented the gravest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
