Bob,

I think you are too dark-minded. The whole hi-tech sector is getting
slaughtered today again. Look at S3's competitors. S3 is still the major
player. I think that the current malaise will accelerate consolidation
and re-alignment and the weaklings (I do not consider S3 a weakling) will
fade away or will have to seek alliances.

We are in for an interesting time, but we should not ignore the overall
state of the market, because that is what is keeping S3 down.

JMHO

Don't be ignorant. How can S3 charge off $100 million of inventory. Inventory on the books is only $50 million. Let us say they charge off $50 million of inventory. So what. Does not affect cash and book net worth only drops from $286 million to $230 million. It is not all over fast. With $100 million of cash they will be around for a long time.

<All it would take is a $100 million charge off on
inventory and restructuring charges and you'll lose $2 a share in book value. Plus you
depleted your cash down to nothing.>

Bob, S3 only has $53M dollars in inventory so if they write off everything your scenario still can't happen. If they write off all of their inventory, that means that take a charge on their books. This does not affect cash at all.
