On the question of independence, it is about calling a glass half full or half empty. The British did not leave of their own accord. It was becoming a costly affair for the British to hold onto India with the non-violent non-cooperation movement launched by Gandhi. The British were also very broke after WWII and they had no stomach for holding onto India at the prohibitive cost which magnified due to the cost involved of post WWII rebuilding of GB. So Attlee had no other option.

The creation of India and Pakistan were of British making. Prior to the outbreak of WWII, the British planted hatred between the Hindus and Muslims so as to keep India weak and thereby reduce the pressure from Gandhi's movement called "satragraha" But soon thereafter WWII broke out and the British were battered and the communal hatred planted by the British could not be reversed.

And when the nations under British imperialism saw that India drove the British out, they started fighting for their Independence from the British crown. S. Africa was one of them. Mandela at first fashioned his movement on the style of Gandhi's. But when the Afrikaneers started their brutality,, he turned and preached retaliation of violence with violence. We had a similar leader who preached what Mandela did. He left Gandhi's movement. You hardly hear of him because the Western historians decided to shut him out because of his supporting Japan against Britain during WWII. His name is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The independence history is very long and I don't want to bore the posters here with it since they are here to discuss Obama.

But I would love to sit down for a cup of afternoon tea with you to discuss this. But for that we need to travel.

I enjoy this discussion as it is very refreshing to discuss informed opinions.
