I don't think its precisely true that the winners write the history books... And, the variation from reality in that expectation is obviously often a part of the problem you identify, but, that also makes for an easy and obvious solution... History is being re-written all the time. The fact is... the one who writes the history... is the one who decides to make the effort to do it. Granted, that is much harder when you're dead. So, the adage might apply if you are a Carthaginian ? But, if you're not dead yet... ? What are you waiting for ? FWIW, I will never lose a debate. First, I'm almost never wrong (but will admit it on the rare occasion). Painfully honest. And, then, I'll easily bury you in words (each exactly and obviously correct) and irrefutable facts, until you beg for mercy and surrender. ;<) Most people, though, are willing enough to engage in dishonest quibbles... in self interest. And, you see that all the time in the global warming debate. So, esoteric discussion of bogus detail in the science, intended to buffalo the illiterates... will work on many. And, many advocates are gladly dishonest at that level, thrill from "winning" that way... knowing its wrong. But, at the level of discussion among literate people... who aren't going to be baffled by the bullshit... and easily recognize it when they see it being produced ? When you see them having to bend over backwards and stick their heads up their asses... while claiming science works by accepting that the failure of predictions is meaningless ? There is not a real scientist anywhere who will agree with that. And, agreeing with that, even if politically expedient now... means... HUGE career risk. Only stupid people miss that. Although, it is true that the world will always need burger flippers too, and more and more of them will probably be former global warming advocates, over the next few years. Things do change in time, that way... That change that is occurring has long since been apparent in the numbers. (Which doesn't mean advocates will start being honest about the numbers of supporters, while flogging their bandwagon campaign ? But, they're marketing people, lying while flogging their brand... not doing science ?) Real scientists who have been made fools of... by the fraud being revealed, now... are chagrined. Many (I think most) have opted out of former willing and unqualified support. None are "joining the bandwagon" now. Everywhere, the former language of absolute certainty is suddenly being modified by innumerable qualifiers. Actual scientific standards will begin being applied in research, again, soon. That's why (in my recent post) you saw the political leadership... DIRECTING the scientists to lie... threatening them to focus on $, not truth... if they want funding. But, scientists DO know how to use qualifiers in language ? There aren't enough teeth in the threat to prevent truth from happening... even if only between the lines, at first... But, every profession knows well enough how to read between its own lines ? As is true in the failure of any scam or fraud... it only really ends when perps turn on each other. And, we're there... or getting there, fast... Climate science will soon become a cut-throat business with the survivors needing... actual science, proper experimental design and controls... backing them. I don't think you should expect most scientists to be overly familiar with the nature of the social dynamics in the operation of a scam or a fraud ? So, there will be a lot of discomfort in coming to grips with having been scammed... by their "own team"... into participation. That's clearly already apparent, now...
