You will never know how close to my heart that posts hits. I am an old man, 72, and I have seen the nonsense since before I was 10. And my mom was the kindest person on earth, but an atheist (she was real smart), although she never cared what I did e.g. I went to church a bit when young.

But I have always been committed to understanding my life and universe as well as possible and always trying to tell the truth. My philosophy was always been we define our validity as human beings by how we live our lives.

Anyway, I have kept in the closet about my being an atheist my whole life. Had to as I was always in the public eye. Ran for the state legislature once. I never edabout it. We atheists are the most discriminated folks on earth. And being an atheist has made my life hard.

But all the atheists have had it hard over history.

Mark Twain told his daughter to release his writings on Christianity after he died.

Einstein always deflected the question by saying his god was Spinoza's god.

Darwin waited 20 years to publish his word he was so scared of the Christians, and on and on.

What divides the liberals and conservatives is the liberals live their lives by facts and reason and conservatives by myth and script.

So the fools (like Bush and Romney) can run the country and the ones who see though the nonsense have to stay in the shadows or lie. Not good for our country.

I made a huge mistake not spending my life in academia where I would at least not had to fight so much, or isolate myself so much.

<<How do consortiums sell military material to both sides with financial gain the only "moral" consideration? I suppose rationalization can carry people a long way across any moral chasm. People do not easily turn their backs on any club. The Republican club is particularly judgemental if you seem to be turning your back even ever so slightly on your fellows. There goes your connections and even your friends and family.

Consider that atheists for many centuries needed to hide the depth of their disbelief for fear of ostracism and far worse. Even today, no free thinker desirous of any public office is likely to admit to being opposed to simple-minded tribal superstitions for fear of retribution in many forms. The truth is that the majority of humans (especially in America) have a despite for people of reason and for those who feel they are above superstitious nonsense. Only in the classrooms and the research labs can our reason prevail. When we are out among the crowds and walking past their superstitious meeting places, we must be vigilant as to what we say. Free Thinkers are not chosen people. And Chosen people (the followers of almost every religious sect and creed) understand just how very special they are! Just ask them!
