I know a lot of kids who go in to the military. Would I rather they went to college some other way? Yes, I would. But there is no other option right now for some of them. Am I willing to wait for that pie in the sky moment when nirvana shows up and we turn in to Finland? No. I'm not. That would be stupid, and it would do a disservice to the young people I must assist. I must do everything within my power to help their dreams now. What happens to the dream deferred? It withers and dies.

I think the military also draws from small towns, where the kids from working families see no escape, except the military. Tens of thousands of small towns, all across America.
