Tesla already has the assembly facilities, Apple could be a few steps ahead in buying them.Tesla now is a niche market. Maybe Apple could then convert to a mass appeal.
Good point. If they are content controlling a small niche, I think they could accomplish that, but it would best be part of a larger strategy to cease their attempts to become a mainstream/dominant platform (as they've tried with iOS) and instead resolve to cater to a specialty segment.

Similar with the iWatch. I like the medical applications, but if they try to use that as the primary springboard to mass appeal, I don't think it will work. The iPhone and iPad did well (especially out of the gate) because they filled broad needs. Most people don't need to carry another expensive accessory to their phone unless it can do a lot more than monitor biometrics and serve as a display extension for the phone.
