"Plato rejected atheism and said the universe had been crafted by a divine intelligence."

Plato invented the Demiurge. This means "Craftsman". In his mind, the universe was higher than the craftsman. The universe was ultimate and what it was 'composed' of was "Forms". In other words, the Demiurge was secondary and it was in no way a personal being. Basically, he reified "good" and invented the idea that this demiurge embodied all that was good and therefore attempted to express all the Forms in a good and coherent fashion. In other words, the Demiurge was not all powerful and was not all knowing and was not all perfect. The Demiurge was subordinate to the universe itself. And the universe was a universe of Forms.

In short, Plato's wild philosophical visions do not support Christian theology in any way, shape, or form,

"The creator of Plato’s physical world is not a divine intelligence or a personal ruler, but (as it were) a manual laborer." Cf. Vlastos, Platos Universe (pp. 26-27):
