Y2K-EC : EC Workshop on National Year 2000 initiatives

Brussels, 19 December 1997

Purpose of the Meeting

The Commission services are undertaking an extensive consultation on the Year 2000 computer problem with representatives of the public and private sectors with a view to identifying the main priorities and potential roles for enterprises, associations, administrations and Community action. The results so far confirm that the responsibility for action must lie primarily with suppliers and owners of computer systems, but other actors can play key roles in raising awareness and encouraging enterprises to take action.

This meeting constitutes an important step in this consultation process. It aims at grouping together a number of representatives from specific Year 2000 actions established in different Member States (by governments, chambers of commerce, professional and industrial associations), and at discussing whether synergies exist and can be exploited and whether there is scope for further cooperation and networking. It will also allow to review the main conclusions of the consultation so far.
