Eric, did I tell you of a "duel" I had against a friend of mine at a paintball field? We each put five paintballs into our respective hoppers, then stood back-to-back. The ref told us to walk steadily away from each other until he blew the horn. At that moment we were to turn around and start shooting at each other.

Well once we started walking, we took no more than three steps before the ref blew the horn, which was much sooner than we expected. In a panic, we immediately turned around and started firing.

The net result? It was a tie. We both missed all five shots, even at close range.

I understand now why proper training is required when it comes to firearms and why rookies or hoodlums with guns (e.g. the Somali insurgents in Black Hawk Down) tend to be terrible shots. I would expect nothing more from an old lady trying to defend her home with an old rifle. At least she had a weapon.
