It is a predictable consequence of the grotesque income inequality in this country I don't know, I think those folks in the article were working for Microsoft (?). I think for many it's an urban lifestyle/values choice. They don't want a "cluttered", high consumption life. Probably it's partially due to the Internet... the whole world is available on an iPad these days. May also be due to all their contemporaries that got burned on housing in the bust. Not that I disagree that income inequality is grotesque in the country.
