At one time, slavery was common in almost all societies. Not every society has produced an antislavery movement though.

Hi average joe; Re slavery and christianity and all that; For hundreds of years, slaves were used in both Christian and Moslem as a form of propulsion for warships. "Galley slaves".

That became obsolete with the dominance of sailing warships. The last major galley fight was at Lepanto in 1571. A victory for the Christian forces, 10,000 (of the other sides') galley slaves were freed.
