For the moment, Ukraine is a happy place, but they'll be electing a new leader soon, and all their previous leaders have been freely elected. The people are used to having leaders with dictatorial power, so, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I remember back to when were were celebrating Egypt, and how the people had deposed Mubarak, and freely elected Morsi - sure he was the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, but after all, they were majority Muslim. Followed fairly shortly by our backing the unconstitutional, illegal deposing of Morsi, since it seemed he'd turned into a dictator like Mubarak. Today, Egypt seems unhappily adrift.

Democracy isn't easy, especially for people who've never known it. Expectations probably get way too high, and the disappointment at the reality of the sausage-making way too strongly bitter.
