I should be able to EASILY search for ALL files.
Au contraire.

You ever try to support non-technical users? They search for files and move them or trash them thinking they're just junk. And then their System won't boot. Hiding the Library made a lot of pain go away for everyone.

Anyone experienced enough to be able to diagnose a corrupt pref and toss it, is experienced enough to learn how to search for hidden files or directories.

I should be able to EASILY search for ALL files.
Here's an easy solution. Launch Terminal and type…

"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true"
"killall Finder"

The reverse is

"defaults delete com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles"
"killall Finder"

Personally I find that exposing all of the hidden files creates such a mess that I gladly keep it in the factory hidden condition.

Finding the 1 file I needed was only a problem because I didn't know what it was named.

A quick search of apple.com/support and there it was.

Stuff gets corrupted or dies that's just life.

Much easier for me to fix Mac related issues than it is to deal with Windows issues.

Other than the initial minor frustration the crash wasn't all that bad.
