The standards were rigorous, the ethics were high, and the public considered CPAs to be persons of high moral content. Today, I don't associate with them. While I maintain my professional memberships it is solely because I have my life insurance with them. I continue to believe one of the worst votes I ever made was for peer review which created a cult of cronyism among CPAs. It was eye-opening for me. Because I happen to have another profession I've spent more of my life at, and that I like better, I have no real need to "convince" anyone I'm anything. Personally, I don't give a shit.
