Bit it should be fairly easy to use your finder or spotlight prefs to make the system searchable for hidden files for people like me. I wouldn't make a dumb mistake like that.

Well, it could be easier to make those files visible, but anyone needing to do so would know about and have one of the many available utilities for doing that. I believe the only type of invisible file I've ever had a need to make visible was a .DS_store file. How often have you had to find and fix invisible files?

And although I sometimes use the command line I'm uncomfortable using it because as pointed out a mistake on the command line can be pretty serious.

I'm with you there. I only use the command line as a last resort and generally only if I'm copying/pasting the command from somewhere else. The command line is for geeks.

In any case I've been ranting for years that Apple should concentrate on security and stability and ease of use rather than aesthetic niceties and animations. Once you've seen the Genie you've seen the Genie. Useless.

True. Steve Jobs always wanted things to be "cool" and appeal to the consumer, hence all the beautification and useless feedback animations and such. Would be nice to be able to turn a lot of that stuff off.

Another thing... Windowshade X was a way better system than they have now when you double click on the title bar. I hate it when I make that error and my work goes flying. Don't know why they didn't buy it. Too much concentration of looks rather than rock hard functionality.

I see that WindowShade X has been discontinued. I didn't know it had been. People seem to think WindowMizer is a good replacement, you might try that. It has the added benefit of not being a haxie like WindowShade X was.
