Caroline,

Shame on you. You should have realized that this wasn't a case of the 24 hour Asian Flu. <VBG>

Wait until it starts hitting the main stream press that Asian banks are highly unlikely to be ready for the Millenium Bug either. Banks that are already insolvent face huge expenditures of money and time to remediate millions of lines of software code for Year 2000 date compliance.

They won't have the money to spend on Fab upgrades.

However, if you must invest in Equipment stock, stick with AMAT or SVGI. SVGI apparently has less than 10% market exposure to Asia and new products coming out. This, according to a "radioshow broker" who seems to be quite wired in on the semis and equipment companies.

Of course, I believe you might want to consider KEA, AMSY, PLAT as defensive/growth-oriented investments. KEA alone has 435+ contracts for Y2K remediation. It is the one area in which revenues and earnings will continue to accelerate since the rest of the market will have to spend money fixing the problem over the next two years.

Regards,

Ron
