Questions raised about judicial nomination for Schumer's brother-in-law
.......................................................................................................

The Hill ^
By Jonathan Easley - 12/26/11

The White House's nomination of Kevin McNulty
for a federal judgeship did not garner much attention, but now some anonymous voices are griping about McNulty's connection to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

McNulty is married to Schumer’s sister, Fran, although the White House's announcement of his nomination for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey on December 16 did not say so.

A New York Post report suggests that McNulty was chosen because of his relationship to Schumer, saying he was a surprise nomination who hadn’t been named as a contender for the position until a last-minute submission by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.).

“McNulty came out of left field,” the Post quoted one unnamed source. “McNulty’s not a dumb guy, but people were just, like, ‘How’d that happen?’”

Lautenberg's office denies the claim.

“It is complete fiction to suggest that there was any deal or that Kevin McNulty was brought into the process at the last minute,” Lautenberg spokesman Caley Gray told the Post.

Grey said McNulty won the nomination solely based on merits, and that Lautenberg didn’t know about the Schumer connection when he first began considering McNulty in 2009.

The Post's anonymous sources called the move a “naked political maneuver” by Lautenberg to curry favor with Schumer.

“Chuck Schumer has supported Frank Lautenberg through thick and thin, both in primaries and general elections,” Schumer spokesman Mike Morey told the Post. “It’s laughable to think he wouldn’t support him in the future.”

The judgeship carries life tenure and pays $174,000 a year.

NSA attempting to build quantum computer that could hack all encrypted data:

report The latest leak from Edward Snowden reveals the government has spent nearly $80 million on a supercomputer exponentially more powerful than a standard computer.

By Stephen Rex Brown / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Friday, January 3, 2014,:

Quantum computers are considered a holy grail of scientific innovation. In theory, they would lead to a giant leap in artificial intelligence — and give the NSA access to virtually all encrypted data.

The NSA has spent nearly $80 million trying to build a quantum supercomputer that could crack virtually all types of data encryption, according to new documents leaked by Edward Snowden.

The Washington Post reports that the secretive agency could use the computer exponentially more powerful than standard computers to hack “banking, medical and government records around the world.”

The government has named the $79.7 million top secret project taking place in a lab in College Park, Md. “Penetrating Hard Targets.”

RELATED: EDWARD SNOWDEN SAYS NSA SPYING WORSE THAN ORWELL’S ‘1984’

So far, the government appears to be no further than scientists attempting to build the megacomputer in public. The computers could in theory lead to rapid advancements in the development of artificial intelligence.

Google announced in May of last year it had opened a Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab in partnership with NASA.

One expert told The Washington Post that the type of quantum computer capable of cracking the toughest data encryption likely won’t be developed within the next five years.

A quantum computer uses quantum bits or qubits, to perform calculations, as opposed to a standard computer that uses binary bits — either 0 or 1.

Qubits can exist simultaneously as zero and one, making calculations occur exponentially faster. By nature the qubits are highly unstable, and most be isolated from their environment — a particularly vexing challenge for scientists.

The latest revelation regarding the NSA’s goal of gaining access to virtually all digitized information comes a week after Snowden declared from Russia his mission “already accomplished.”

The Obama administration has shot down any possibility of offering Snowden clemency or a plea deal. Instead, they say Snowden should return to the U.S. and face trial for charges of espionage and theft.

On Wednesday Snowden’s cause received a boost from the editorial board of two newspapers.

“ It is time for the United States to offer Mr. Snowden a plea bargain or some form of clemency that would allow him to return home, face at least substantially reduced punishment in light of his role as a whistle-blower,” The New York Times wrote.

The Guardian, which broke the first story of the Snowden leaks, went even further, laying out the case for a pardon.

“We hope that calm heads within the present administration are working on a strategy to allow Mr Snowden to return to the US with dignity,” its editorial board wrote.

The endorsements comes a week after two federal judge said the agency likely violated the constitution, though a third found its phone data collection program legal.

An Obama-appointed panel also suggested reining in the NSA’s surveillance programs and bringing it under further oversight.

The West is led by the weaklings the Left wanted
..........................................................................................
In Britain, Europe and the United States they all swooned over Barack Obama. They got the weakling they wanted.
So, what's their problem?

Obama looking disengaged

2 March 2014
thecommentator.com

Over in the United States, the attempt by foreign-policy enthusiasts in the Democratic Party to distance themselves from the train wreck that is the Obama administrationhas been gathering pace for some time now.

Finally, it is starting to happen in Britain and Europe too where, after Syria, Ukraine and many other instances, the leading lights of the political Left seem to have woken up to the fact that Western leadership isn't quite what it might be these days.

"One of the alarming features of the crisis on Ukraine's Crimean peninsula is the staggering confidence with which Vladimir Putin is pursuing his agenda there and in eastern Ukraine," reads the opening paragraph of the Observer's editorial on Sunday.

Actually, there's nothing staggering about it all, unless you have about six years of baggage to shed over your support for Barack Obama. Putin clocked Obama for the weakling he is from day 1.

All we're seeing from the Russian leader is more of what we have seen over Syria, Iran and a host of other cases, except that Ukraine is right in Putin's own back yard.

"One thing is certain," the Observer says, "the current crisis presents the biggest threat to security in Europe since the Balkan wars, and western leaders, including Obama and David Cameron (who has spoken to Putin on the phone), have hardly been impressive in their response, demonstrating a weak grasp on the events unfolding. For now, Putin is ahead of the game. It is time for the international community to catch up."

Quite what they're complaining about isn't clear. In Barack Obama they have precisely the "Leader of the Free World" they always wanted. He embodies all that they stand for, and all that they are.

He does not believe in the primacy of Western values. Neither do they. He therefore sees no reason to show leadership around the world. Neither do they. He has downgraded and diminished the U.S. military as a consequence. The Left applauds. He shows weakness to the mullahs in Iran. The Left praises him for his diplomacy. He worships dictatorship-friendly bodies like the UN. The Left cheers him as a peacemaker.

You can't have it both ways. If you want a weak-kneed, apologetic, bleeding heart Western leadership don't feign surprise when the likes of Vladimir Putin fail to take you seriously.

Defenders of Obama point to his drone strikes as evidence that he's not quite the soft touch his critics make him out to be. But that's foreign and defence policy reconstituted as a video game. Even Obama can act all tough and macho when the worst thing that can happen to him is a demonstration in Peshawar after he's accidentally taken out a wedding party.

Drop the virtual reality and he's wandering in traffic.

Weakness is policy, and the world's dictatorships have taken note. The only question now is how much more damage can be done before this disastrous presidency finally comes to an end.

The progressive spin is that Putin’s invasion, as the Center for American Progress put it, is “an act of weakness, not strength — an act, as Kerry aptly characterized it, anachronistic in both moral and strategic terms… fundamentally mismatched to 21st century realities.”

In the upside down world of progressive soft power, invading another country is an act of weakness while being unable to do anything about it is an act of strength. Weakness is the new strength and strength is the new weakness.

Obama’s impotence makes him a world leader, while Putin’s potency makes him a 19th century relic.

Gates Foundation targets opponents of massive student database...

Whatever happened to the right to privacy and anonymity?? These education databases are nothing more than "ear tags" on the students...you know, like those placed on cattle...allowing the schools, and thus the government and/or big business to harvest valuable data on the students...with or without their assent and sometimes without their knowledge.

If I'm paying tuition to attend a university, whose right is it to know any of the "data" I generated at that university except for me and the university???

None of this one-size-fits-all mandatory data gathering that may or may not be used for nefarious purposes down the road by who knows whom. We are allegedly freeborn men and women...let's keep it that way while we still have the chance.

The Jihad of Liberalism
...................................................................
By David S. Whitley March 17, 2014
americanthinker.com

In Islamic countries we often hear of the three choices offered the non-Muslim, the kafir, the infidel. Three choices beginning with convert, pay the jizya poll tax and become a third class citizen or die. Liberals often employ this same Jihadists tactic with non-liberals.

It is my experience that liberals are far more than simply gullible or ignorant. Their world view is one of self-deception and self-loathing. They are political and historical masochists. They feel so ashamed at the generosity, wisdom, beauty, and success of Western civilization that they have trained themselves to process everything through the prism of masochism. They are truly Ameriphobic.

This perverted viewpoint allows them to look upon American slavery as the worst of all sins ever committed. While that period of American history is certainly abhorrent, the liberals were never taught that the slave trade was possible only because of Islamic conquest in the Middle East, Persia, Asia and Africa, and its heavy emphasis on the slave trade. This human trafficking is what helped pay for the jihad of conquest that fueled the spread of Islam.

Liberals have actually taken on many of the traits of the Islamists they so often defend.

Liberals live by their own version of Sharia Law.

They say they are inclusive -- yet, when asked about including the Tea Party, or a Republican, or a conservative, they recoil in horror. They aren't inclusive and they aren't tolerant.

They say they speak for the innocent -- yet they refuse to defend the unborn and the elderly from Obamacare.

They say they are for free speech and the First Amendment, but say anything ill of a liberal, a liberal program, or a liberal idea, and you will be railed for "blasphemy" -- a crime punishable by a boycott, lost jobs, or character assassination (the next “best” thing to death itself).

They say they are for women, and pretend to defend them against the so-called “War on Women,” yet they allow their men to live lives of shame, allowing the likes of John Edwards and Bill Clinton (who practically had a concubine in Arkansas) to roam free in the hen-house. Never mind the dozens of others, who got away with philandering with nary a harsh word from the so-called “women's groups.” It would be laughable, if it weren't so downright depressing. It seems the liberal men get to enjoy the Islamic paradise of endless women here and now, rather than having to blow themselves up for the cause. Well, I guess they do “blow up” their egos a bit, don't they? Let's call it martyrdom “lite.”

Just like Islamists, liberals, too, have a dualistic ideology. It's always okay to destroy the livelihood of a non-liberal, and never okay to speak ill of a fellow progressive, even when the subject or offense is exactly the same.

Liberals are always droning on themselves about promoting women and minorities, but are simply hypocrites when it comes to putting their money, or political appointments, where their mouth is. Republicans, they may be shocked to learn, were the force behind abolition, desegregation, women's suffrage, and civil rights. But you won't hear that in the high schools, colleges, or universities, and you will never see it on network news.

Liberals are all about fairness and equality, except when it comes to conservative blacks and conservative women. To those, slander and ad-hominem attacks are delivered on cue. The ugliness echoes almost endlessly, as if fed back through a liberal meme-phone.

Vitriolic talk is to be condemned, if not outlawed, unless it comes from the lips of a liberal. In which case, it is simply the truth, on steroids. All passion from the right is, of course, from the bowels of racism and sexism, and any and every phobia invented in the progressive nomenclature.

A liberal can actually tell everyone that the word "bossy" needs to be cleansed from the culture with a straight face. Only a liberal would proclaim that burning words and redacting our language isn't the culmination of a "bossy" mind but one instead who is doing good for the children, or better yet those fragile little girls.

Liberals condemn any sort of criticism of those who switch sides -- tolerance, acceptance, and open arms are how you welcome those who have turned to the dark side. However, it is much different when leaving the liberal plantation; becoming an apostate leads to marginalization at best, and most-assuredly a fatwa on your head. It never leads to enlightenment and tolerance, and happy good-byes. Giving up the old faith is an apostasy worthy of death, but character assassination will suffice, as it is the most trusted form of liberal abuse to beat former acolytes into submission.

The most hated conservatives are often those who escaped through the underground railroad of critical thinking: Ronald Reagan, Andrew Breitbart, Thomas Sowell, David Horowitz, even Milton Friedman, were all once liberals! Do current liberals have anything good to say about them? No. All we get is "senile," "Bat poop crazy," "Uncle Tom," "irrelevant," and "misguided." Former liberals are only recognized by the scarlet letter or the verbal filth poured upon their heads.

The longer I live, the more I see the similarities between the ideology of liberals and the Islamists they so often defend. You either think like them, believe like them or feel their wrath. You either convert to their side, or face the penalties of their faith system: pay them homage by bowing down in political correctness to their idols or remain fearfully silent -- otherwise you will be what is called behind closed doors as an "example." If that doesn't work, they will move to option three, the slow death of a million cuts known as the political vendetta aka character assassination.

The absurd and dangerous duality of liberalism must be exposed.
