MILPITAS, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) will use C-Cube Microsystems Inc.'s (CUBE) ZiVA DVD Decoder for its new Dimension XPS DS series PCs.

In a press release Thursday, C-Cube said its ZiVA single-chip DVD decoder lets PC makers and original equipment manufacturers offer customers audio/video playback.

C-Cube said its ZiVA SecureView copy protection technology guarantees that Dell's DVD -based products will play all CSS copy protected DVD titles.

C-Cube develops and delivers highly integrated digital video silicon solutions for consumer electronics, communications and convergence markets.

BEIJING (CEIS) -- SALES OF VCD PLAYERS ON THE CHINESE MARKET TURNED BRISK AND THE PRICES PICKED UP A BIT IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF THIS YEAR, ACCORDING TO A SURVEY OF 100 DEPARTMENT STORES CONDUCTED BY THE MINISTRY OF ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY.

THE 100 STORES SOLD A TOTAL OF 102,744 VCD PLAYERS IN THE THREE-MONTH PERIOD, UP 69.34 PERCENT FROM THE FIRST QUARTER AND 70.91 PERCENT FROM THE SECOND QUARTER.

BUT THE SALES VOLUME IN THE JULY-SEPTEMBER PERIOD WAS NOT EVEN, AND A TOTAL OF 35,230 PLAYERS WERE SOLD IN JULY, 39,232 PLAYERS IN AUGUST, AND 28,539 PLAYERS IN SEPTEMBER.

AS THE MARKET DEMAND INCREASED, SUPPLY OF SOME NAME BRAND VCD PLAYERS WENT TIGHT AND THEIR PRICES PICKED UP BIT BY BIT.

I especially like your thoughts reguarding further acquisitions. But at
the same time I think several quarters deep in the black should be
accomplished before a buy-back. Better yet how about rumors set forth by the company itself that a buy-back is emanate?
