We have always found ways to hurt the weak and "undesirable" in America. Folks who want to cut off welfare and starve the poor into "behvaing" are just another point in that line of thinking.

I don't know whether Alexa will bring this up or not but poverty among women is much less visible than that among men. So any narrative which claims it was not a problem during a particular era or even less of a problem than that among men needs very strong statistics to back it up.

My own guess, fwiw, is that the rate of poverty among women in any era is greater than that among men.
