I just checked out the web page of the Economic Strategy Institute. It is an political organization. From their FAQ at econstrat.com :

The Economic Strategy Institute was founded out of the deep concern of key U.S. industry and labor leaders with the erosion of America's economic leadership, and with the hostility of media and academic commentators toward efforts to halt the slide.

Now there's nothing wrong with a political view, except that quite often it gets in the way of the economics, if only because you'll hire people based on their politics rather than on their scholarship. Considering that their FAQ wants to compete against the "hostility of .. academic commentators," I would guess that the economists whom they hire are not tight with academia. As an academic type, myself, I worry about the objectivity.
