NEW YORK, Dec 11 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp's Chairman
and Chief Executive Michael Dell on Thursday said that in
coming years the company expects to conduct half of its
customer transactions in cyberspace.
At a keynote speech at the Internet World trade show in New
York, Dell said the direct PC sales company is selling more
than $3 million worth of products a day, or about $1 billion a
year, through its site on the World Wide Web.
A spokesman said that the company expected to conduct half
of its business online by 2000.
The Dell CEO said the company had had "several $6 million
days" of sales during the past few weeks leading to Christmas.
Speaking about the future of electronic commerce, Dell said
the company views its site as key to its global growth.
He said people are 40 percent more likely to to buy Dell's
computers if they have visited the company's Web site.
The company, therefore, has 17 country-specific sites in
Europe and 16 in Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
"We have seen international commerce ramp from zero to 17
percent of our overall internet business in six months," Dell
said.
