MMs are usually backed by large financial powers such as Merryl Lynch,
Smith Barney (Traveller's Group), Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, etc.
some MMs are owned by mutual funds and brokerages. in fact, I believe
every broker (including discount brokerages) have their own market maker
and clearing firms.

it is hard to understand how these MMs will not have some sort of
connection with each other. one analyst from a MM firm, such as Alex
Brown, are usually good friends with other analysts from other firms.
that's how the world goes. you can't stop people from knowing each
other.

once there is an established social group, i am sure sometimes MM do
collaborate to make good profits.

idealistically, MMs should be competing with each other in order to give
small investors the best possible price. but, it seems like the other
way around. especially with stocks that trade beyond rational
explanation. the only explanation would be that these stocks are simply
100% controlled (or the other way to put it, "rigged"). or maybe we have
not done enough homework. but, once you put all the puzzles together,
there is only one conclusion. atleast it seems like that, for the
moment. until someone can provide a better explanation, i don't think
this can be disproved.

"when you eliminate all the possibilities, there leads to the
conclusion, no matter how improbable or impossible, the truth."
--Sherlock Holmes.

i read people here posting "why IOMG dropped 1 point today" or "why CUBE
dropped for 3 weeks with no reason" and the funny thing is, I think deep
in everybody's heart they think the market could be rigged.
