Mang, I agree that sub 1K PCs will probably help COMS, if they are making a profit on the modems. I would be careful with this kind of thinking though, as that was the #1 thing the DD stock holders hung their hat on. But volume means nothing if ASPs have dropped to the point where the company can't make a profit.

Not necessarily bad for all PC makers. CPQ in particular is aggressively leading the way in sub 1K PCs. Did you know you can get a CPQ 233MHz MediaGX processor for $795, w/o monitor? Some say CPQ makes just as much profit on the sub 1K systems as they do with the mid-ranged systems. Who knows, but I can't see CPQ willingly leading the way on sub 1K PC pricing if they aren't making money on them. JMO.
