Indeed very strange, but not unreasonable, dual loyalty, more so that the present Russian administration does not have a lot of fans in Israel but to the contrary, many immigrants from Russia directly oppose the present administration and this is not to mention those Oligarchs that where forced to flee Russia. IMHO Putin makes a big mistake and only proves how limited intellectually he is as are his inner circle. This conclusion is from my direct negotiation at very high levels. The problems Russia has are enormous from demographics to economics and territorial. To control such an immense country from a central point is impossible. They problem is that since Peter the Great the Russian elite still thinks as a Super-Power which always brought them into economic troubles. The concept that to riches you can get only bey being a Kleptomaniac is their second problem. Ukraine is a very rich country, but technologically relatively poor. Mismanagement and kleptomania made things only worse.Russia is in a very similar situation. If Putin and his inner circle would have been smart he would dump the economic problem on the US and EU,to sort the Ukrainian problem out, secure their unnecessary hold on the Sevastopol for ego reason only and internal politics, and sit and wait how the experiment progresses. If success copy it, your people will benefit handsomely and you will be re-elected for life - but to think so far one needs brains which are acutely needed in the present administration which is blindsided by imperialistic and militaristic dreams.
