You might bet on that...

Apple had numerous competitors in the computer business, and was not the first PC, Windows won by a fluke I think. And because it was a fluke, for years Windows has been losing its lead. Apple survived the fluke purely because of quality, and has been growing its business for years.

Apple had numerous competitors in the music player business, they were by no means the first, but they wiped the others out.

Apple had numerous competitors in the phone business, they were by no means the first, not even the touch screen, but they wiped the others out. Google did get in but Apple still makes the most money.

Apple had numerous competitors in the tablet business, they were by no means the first, but they wiped the others out. Google partners may get in but Apple still makes the most money. Microsoft tried many times with tablets even before the iPad.

Apple is pretty good at finding products that have potential but generally suck, and making them not suck. That is what they have done well. Whether that will continue remains to be seen.
