I disagree with Hitchens there. He was wonderful in a straight forward honesty of thought. But Voltaire was more subtle of mind and a much greater genius. Plus, the Voltaire quote was a pun of sorts. I am surprised that Hitchens would challenge it. The human invention of god is indeed a great problem. But it WAS necessary (for most of the dim-witted "transactional" human population) to invent that primitive comfort.

They were both right in the context of their intent...
