Snowshoe you are obvious not familiar with Russian economy or mentality.

1. Russian population/nation are nice warm people not war mongering people like in other nations
2. Russian population got used to be ruled by tyrants since the Tsarists times and as such do not revolt easily
3. Stopping flow of NG to Europe and freezing Russian funds will leave the government penniless and with out ability to pay salaries, a internal revolt will ensue as there are meager savings with the ordinary people.
4. Present government will not walk this route because it will bring to internal strife and ultimate fall of the present administration
5. You need the useless UN Security Council as means of public opinion
6. Europe is economically much stronger than Russian economy, aside there are no free lunches. Are you envision a velvet confrontation? This is extremely silly,.
7. Russian people in essence are not gangsters but hard working people. Unfortunate their continuous exploitation by various rulers made them quite depressed.
8.Unfortunate Russians are ruled by gangsters that embezzled Russian riches from the rightful owners the Russian population/nation
9. You must differentiate between the Russian people and those ruling them same as to differentiate between the Slavic population and the remnants of those with Varangians ancestors
10 Most of Siberian Russian Slavic population arrived there mostly by being exiled from Russia proper (within the borders of Ivan Grozny Tsarists state) if by the various Tsars including the Prussian Tsarists Kathrine the Great and mostly under Stalin before during and after WWII
11. Many students that finished their academic training during communist rule, where sent to all type of places within the present "Stans" or Siberia or where left without the ability to work.
I have or had friends whose families where from classic Russian cities but where forced to live in cities like, Baku, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Tashkent, Almaty, Karagandy and more, all not cities within core Russia .

From Der Spiegel

The political Moscow - if not the majority of Russians - is firmly convinced that triumphed on the Maidan in Kiev not only nationalist revolutionaries but "fascists". Since the start of the uprising against Viktor Yanukovych three months ago already makes this battle cry in Russia the round. (Many) Have largely ignored the fact remains that not only right Combat Squads from Western Ukraine were on the Independence Square, but also hundreds of thousands of citizens from Kiev, many of which are native Russian speakers.

I do not know what is going on in the Ukraine, even though I have a Ukraine neighbor two gates down the road and she certainly does give my wife and I a view of what may be happening there. The fat jack likes the toy train set they have and has so far paid no attention to the little girl that came w/ the train set. Once upon a time I did meet some minister of the Ukraine at the neighbor's party but cannot recall the administration. I do remember the minister was fabulously wealthy and seemed a fine person, eloquent, learned, and generous. Could be that generosity comes w/ easy income, unsure.

I also know that tribe china has a few dogs in the fight that is evolving in the Ukraine, but am uncertain what the net net would be and how the net net would push china beyond what it would usually do, by action or ballot, that be almost nothing to hardly anything, other than the mantra of territorial sovereignty and let the locals go at it and sort out the issues on own.

Hiccup in Ukraine could burp china food supply noticeably, which Russia may be able to make up. And if not Russia, then Australia, Canada, America, and / or Brazil.

Trouble in Ukraine may bother China in less obvious ways, or not.

I suppose Russia may want some friends around, especially on its Siberian front. This may not be the most opportune time for Japanese to try to pry away any islands from Putin. Wars are expensive, and sales generate revenue, and China is a buyer.

Also, as Uncle Sam has been defeated in Afghanistan and is about turn tail, betraying its Afghanistan ally as it must have done w/ its Ukraine friends, India must keep as mum as the Germans would whenever America decides it has enough of Europe.

Dunno, just dunnos, but the Ukrainian party girl'z train set is nice, and goes well w/ cotton candy :0)
