As the Straight Dope says: "Conservatives are characterized by dogmatism, intolerance of ambiguity, low openness to experience, anxiety, and fear. In other words, if you’re conservative, you shouldn't’ be voting, you need to see a shrink." But I disagree with that to some degree. The truth is probably that conservatives are almost as smart as liberals--but way way more superstitious. Those able to be independent of stupid categories and think for themselves, those who are capable of maintaining sovereign minds and avoiding the rigid stereotyping of any labels--they are actually the ones who are far far smarter than either side.
