The problem with these kinds of "games" is, as we all know, sometimes they become more than any of the major actors planned. WWI is the classic example though, no doubt, there are more. Play close to the edge and sometimes someone actually pushes someone else over, or the edge crumbles. Or pick your metaphor.

As for machismo, we are fortunate to have Obama right now rather than GWB.
