Great observation.

..and like so many of the ills in this country it simply underscores the problem of inequity we are facing

Survival is now dependent on 2 paychecks since the rewards that now accrue to labor are insufficient to maintain the life styles we were accustomed to in the last century.

But then again 80% of Americans now earn less than 20% of the countries aggregate income...

I worded that statement a bit awkwardly. It should read that I'm unaware of any studies which correlate the changing family structure--the "no one home argument"--with changes in student achievement. My guess is something is out there; it's too rich a question to go unexamined. But it's not an easy one to come up with a good research design. However, one thing that is different now from the middle 60s when James Coleman did his work are easy access to national databases that might get someone down the road to an answer.

As long as the entire family is working on the education it just doesn't matter the structure.

My daughter is a lawyer and stays at home.

I pity my grand kids, they have too much attention and expectations from the clan.

I just take them fishing myself. Well with a math book in tow-lol.
