hell haim, below my tried-to-be-objective-and-practical synopsis of thought process, but first two side notes in response to some history re russians in china

(1) harbin be the place russians of enough flavours called home

(2) shanghai be the place russian jews and of other flavours called home

(3) per sun tze, one must acknowledge the following:
(3-i) distant waters cannot save nearby fires
(3-ii) gifting ice in a snow storm is probably not appreciated as much as delivering charcoal during a winter storm
(3-iii) russia is a super power, at least for the near term, merely suffered a bad hiccup
(3-iv) america is not a friend of china's and given its interventions in chinese geopolitical as well as civil affairs cannot be a friend
(3-v) america has fought several wars de facto against china and seems to think it can do so w/o consequence to self even as it lost all wars against china while china was weak and is weaker
(3-vi) russia knows it cannot fight a war against china on its own (it did so in de facto league w/ others) and cannot do so w/o consequence especially when taking correct measure of ... time
(3-vii) russia tried to fight china on own over the amur islands and in time ceded control along w/ large tracts of then disputed territory
(3-viii) siberia is worth money only if china provides the labour and the the market, else just a frozen wasteland
(3-ix) america supports yakuza-embedded neo fascist japan which semi-officially deny history, and is about to make denial official

(4) bottom line, from china's perspective, there is no need to catch lice from anyone else's hair to put on own head, and therefore the general policy be:
(4-i) do not provoke russia
(4-ii) say neither yes nor no to usa
(4-iii) do commerce
(4-iv) build lots and lots of rockets
(4-v) always remember, "never again"
(4-vi) hit back whenever hit, and never mind the cost

my other thoughts?
eu, usa, russia, china, ... and whomever are engaged in a romance
there is a good book that is quite applicable, and i recommend it en.wikipedia.org

the chess gaming is about to become more interesting.

ukraine? must be viewed in larger context. it is unfortunate that ukraine people are tee-ed up again.
too many red lines painted by too many outsiders, and putin is making his move.
let us see how far obama is willing to wager.
believe we can count eu out for the count from the get-go.
