That's a good article.

I get the argument over so-called "carried interests," and sometimes it is just really difficult to discern what is compensation vs. what is capital. That a person puts up no capital to begin with has not, traditionally, prevented him from receiving a "capital" interest. I can understand why some people want it changed, but I agree with the quote at the end, that it isn't like that's going to solve the problem.

For as long as I remember people have been wanting to convert ordinary income to cap gain. I just don't see it stopping anytime soon, regardless of what Congress does.

As a side note, the partnership regulations dealing with these issues are some of the most complex anywhere. I cannot imagine what they'd be like if they actually tried to "fix" these provisions.
