Mike were you in Austin Tx the other day?

I saw one of the most beat up Chevy vans I've ever seen and on it was a bunper sticker that said"please Lord let there be another oil boom like the 80's and I promise not to piss it away this time"

Mike, that's the kind of info I depend on! Don't forget the fellers at Varco.

Regards,

Paul

Allow me to use your post to vent a little.

Now what you say is some on-the-scene, fundamental facts that drilling and related companies are making money. So, today, for example, Greentree Financial, which has all kinds of problems, goes down 3 and MDCO, which is making tons of money every day also goes down 2 1/2! Looks like the people getting out of the techs and banks would get into a sector that IS making money. I guess they are buying bonds.

Mike,

the "build their own" scenario seems to be gaining some popularity. While on the links last weekend, I discovered that one of the guys from the neighborhood was involved in deep water exploration. The discussion (naturally) turned to the offshore service providers and he informed me that they anticipated the skyrocketing rates and are building several jackups in partnership with a construction firm rather then pay the anticipated rates. Detail in email if anyone is interested.
